Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’ alongside Richard Smallwood’s ‘Anthem of Praise’: Gospel Baroque makes it possible. Traditional Gospel songs alternate with Handel’s ‘Hallelujah’ in a return-to-baroque version of Quincy Jones: in this concert, this is the way it is meant to be.

Judith Steenbrink: “During the preparation of this exuberant program we noticed that rich harmonies coming from the organ are a common friend of both the baroque and gospel. A Hammond organ or magisterial baroque church organ, both bathe in a full sound and have many harmonic possibilities. It was fantastic to find ways to make this richness come alive in the orchestral parts as well.”
